EXPERIENCE THE NEW MAZDA 3 – ONE OF THE SAFEST CAR

The new Mazda 3 range is by far the best yet whichever your choice of the two transmissions and two engines. All grades offer the choice of SKYACTIV-MT 6-speed manual or SKYACTIV-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission. When it comes to the engine, the 2.0 litre SKYACTIV-G petrol branded engine produces 114kW of power and 200Nm of torque and is available on Neo, Maxx and Touring variants.

Higher power and torque specifications are available for the SP25, GT and Astina grades which come with a 2.5 litre SKYACTIV-G petrol engine – with 138kW of power and 250Nm of torque. Whether you choose the 2.0 or 2.5 litre form, or automatic or manual transmission, you are bound to be impressed by the innovative new range of safety features that the new Mazda 3 offers. For Mazda, safety is always at the forefront, with all models including the new revolutionary i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology.

“Mazda has improved what is already an excellent car. The updated i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology inclusions make Mazda3 one of the safest cars in its class, while the enhanced drive and handling characteristics – something that Mazda is renowned for – are sure to impress all that drive it.” – Alastair Doak – Mazda Australia marketing director

All Mazda 3 models now include ‘Smart City Brake Support’ (SCBS), also known as low-speed forward autonomous emergency braking (AEB), with pedestrian protection. This system monitors the vehicle in front to assess the likelihood of a collision, and in situations of high risk will warn you or even brake automatically. On the Mazda 3, SCBS operates between 4-80km/h. All grades also include primary safety systems such as stability control, anti-lock brakes to prevent wheel lock up and consequent sliding, and traction control to optimise grip and stability. Grades from the volume-selling Maxx upwards also feature a reversing camera, Blind-Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to ensure you maintain a safe distance whilst reversing. These variants also offer an extension of the SCBS/low-speed AEB system that also functions in reverse gear (SCBS-Reverse).

A step above, the SP25 GT also includes additional safety features such as Driver Attention Alert which activates a visual clue when it detects signs of fatigue from your input, and Traffic Sign Recognition which detects and reads road signs that you may have missed. At the top level, the SP25 Astina also offers Forward Obstruction Warning, Lane-Departure Warning which monitors road markings and warns you if you stray from your lane or else implements corrective steering measures where necessary, Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) and Adaptive LED headlights.

The new Mazda 3 has excelled with its new safety features, with few other small cars at this level having such a remarkable list of additions. Although you currently need to go with the top level variants for the fully encompassing safety suite, it is certain that many of these additions will trickle down into the lower grades in the Mazda 3 range.
