Mazda has set a new May sales record, selling a best-ever 9,608 vehicles last month. The new May record betters the previous best posted in 2015, and is the fifth consecutive month this year that Mazda has set a new monthly sales benchmark.

According to VFACTS figures released today, Mazda’s tally gave it a 9.9 per cent May market share, with the May sales record up 13.6 per cent compared to April.

Having sold a record 48,518 new cars, SUVs and utilities Year-To-Date (YTD), up 7.7 per cent Year-On-Year (YOY), Mazda enjoys an overall 10.3 per cent slice of the Australian automotive market and Mazda maintains its place as the nation’s leading full-line importer.

With global production passing five million units recently, the ever-popular Mazda3 led the way with 3,243 May sales, up almost 30 per cent compared to April. The Mazda3 has sold 15,976 hatch and sedan variants to the end of May and is one of Australia’s most popular cars.

For the second consecutive month, new records were set for Mazda CX-3, New Mazda BT-50 and All-New Mazda MX-5, while Mazda CX-5 also enjoyed its highest-selling May ever.

Drawing further ahead of its competition, Mazda CX-5 – Australia’s most popular SUV – recorded 2,117 sales last month, it best-ever May. It has sold almost 10,000 vehicles YTD and more than 92,000 since launching in March 2012.

With sales booming in the small SUV segment, Mazda CX-3 also enjoyed its best May on record with 1,451 finding new homes. The nation’s most popular small SUV, Mazda CX-3 has posted 7,582 YTD sales.

New Mazda BT-50 had its equal best May on record, with 1,204 sales, a number it last recorded in 2013, All-New Mazda MX-5 – which received an Australian Good Design award last Friday – had its best-ever May with 118 sales, while Mazda’s light car offering, Mazda2, enjoyed 1,069 sales last month. Astonishingly, monthly sales for Mazda2 have only dipped below 1,000 units on seven occasions since the start of the decade.

In support, Mazda6 maintained its place as the nation’s most popular mid-sized import under $60,000 with 384 sales.

Mazda3 and Mazda2 are continuing to sell strongly, while new records have been set in consecutive months for Mazda BT-50. Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-3 are both leading their respective segments, and we are soon to launch the Brand-New Mazda CX-9 to the Australian market. With an all-new 2.5 litre turbo charged petrol engine and boasting fuel economy figures that are almost 25 per cent better than the outgoing model, as well as class-leading standard safety technology,  we have high hopes for our new second generation seven-seat SUV.”
