Experience Driving In A Whole New Way. How To Choose A New Mazda 3.

The Mazda 3 is one of the most loved and popular cars in Australia, consistently being among the top of best seller lists across the country.  In its latest offering, Mazda has taken a different road for its compact sedan and hatchback in an attempt to continue standing out in an increasingly crowded market, and what they have come up certainly does not disappoint.

Follow steps 1, 2, 3 to help choose which Mazda 3 is for you.

Step 1. Body Image

Both new Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback body variants have both been given a stunning upgrade to its looks and feel both inside and out. Applying Mazda’s Kodo “Soul of Motion” design language, each body type exudes its own unique yet beautiful styling.

The hatch possesses a bolder, sportier and arguably more aggressive or fierce tone. On the other hand, the sedan is more refined and sleek, with an air of dignified elegance. Both body types feature a perfectly crafted premium interior with an up market feel, cutting edge Skyactiv Technology and the latest in technology and safety features.

If luggage space is important, you may want to opt for the sedan with a boot capacity of 444L, while the hatch can fit up to 295L in the back.

In addition to the choice of body type, the Mazda 3 is available in no less than 6 trim levels. In order, they range from the entry level G20 Pure to G20 Evolve, G20 Touring, G25 Evolve, G25 GT, G25 Astina and finally the top-spec X20 Astina.

You also get to choose from a standard palette of six sophisticated colours and two optional ones.

Step 2. Performance Preference

Each trim level except the X20 Astina (housing the all-new Skyactiv-X 2.0L SPCCI 132kW/224Nm petrol engine with M Hybrid system) will be powered by one of two engines – the 2.0L Skyactiv-G 114kW/200Nm petrol or the 2.5L Skyactiv-G 139kW/252Nm petrol. All three engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission

For easy reference, all G20 trims are powered by the Skyactiv-G 2.0L petrol, and likewise all G25 trims house the Skyactiv-G 2.5L petrol and the X20 has the Skyactiv-X 2.0L. Like everything to do with Mazda 3 for sale in Perth, everything is well thought out and just makes sense.

Fuel economy in both the Skyactiv-G 2.0L and Skyactiv-G 2.5L engines is decent and surprisingly close too, thanks to the gains in efficiency from the cylinder deactivation technology in the Skyactiv-G 2.5L. But it is clear that the new Skyactiv-X 2.0L petrol is the most efficient and cheapest engine to run.

For the Mazda 3 hatch, fuel consumption is 6.4L / 100km and 6.2L / 100km (combined) for the 2.0L with manual and auto transmission respectively. And for those trims running the 2.5L petrol, you can expect 6.3L / 100km and 6.6L / 100km for manual and auto transmission respectively.

And for the sedan, fuel consumption is 6.3L / 100km and 6.1L / 100km (combined) for the 2.0L with manual and auto transmission respectively. And for those trims running the 2.5L petrol, you can expect 6.2L / 100km and 6.5L / 100km (combined) for manual and auto transmission respectively.

Fuel consumption of the Skyactiv-X 2.0L is 5.3L / 100km and 5.5L / 100km (combined) for manual and auto transmission respectively.

Step 3. Trim Time

G20 Pure – Although it is the entry level trim, you won’t be disappointed with what is offered. Here you will find basically everything you will need in terms of safety, technology and practicality.

Just remember, each trim level automatically includes all the features found in all lower level trims, and it starts with the G20 Pure.

Included as standard is a 7-inch TFT instrument panel running Mazda’s Active Driver Display, and a multimedia system built around an 8.8-inch colour screen with an all-new Mazda Connect system and controlled by a dial on the centre console. From it you can access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio and satellite navigation.

As for standard safety features, Mazda has introduced a newly developed knee airbag for the driver’s seat and some of the latest in driver assistance technology to help the driver avoid accidents, such as Smart Brake Support (SBS), Lane-keep Assist System (LAS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW)), and Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC). And G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) offers unprecedented levels of stability and control.

And with standards like Keyless push-button engine start, 8 speakers, seats with black cloth trim, exterior mirrors with power adjustment and auto folding function, and air-conditioning there’s not much more you require for a high quality daily driver.

However, you may want to consider another trim if you need dual zone climate control, or one with either a Skyactiv-G 2.5L or Skyactiv-X 2.0L engine to get more grunt (especially off the mark).

G20 Evolve – this is the lowest level trim you can get with dual zone climate control air conditioning. And with a leather-wrapped gear shift knob and steering wheel, and paddle shift gear control (auto only), it is a good option to make it a little more premium without adding too much cost.

G20 Touring and G25 Evolve – both of these trims get the Advanced Keyless Entry and a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Where they differ is that the G20 Touring gets seats with black leather trim, while the G25 Evolve gets the more powerful Skyactiv-G 2.5L engine upgrade with cylinder deactivation.

G25 GT – audiophiles many like this trim with its upgrade to a sound system featuring a Bose amplifier and 12 speakers. More premium touches are added in the form of black leather seat trim, as well as front seats and steering wheel with heating function, useful for places with cold climates.

G25 Astina and X20 Astina – get all the bells and whistles with these two top level trims including a powered glass sunroof and seat trim in either black leather or an optional pure white leather for that extra wow factor. Both also get the Vision Technology package as standard, consisting of 5 extra intuitive driver assistance features – a 360o degree camera, Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS), Driver Monitoring (fatigue detection and alert), Front Cross Traffic Alert, and Front Parking Sensors.

The Vision Technology package is also available to purchase as an option on all other trim levels.

For a fantastic new car that is sure to far exceed your expectations, and put a smile on your face like nothing else on the market.
